Yes. The SmartFeeder fertiliser injector is an amazing 1,800 times more efficient at feeding your plants than traditional hand-fertilising methods. Your garden will be stay greener, healthier and more beautiful from Spring to Autumn with SmartFeeder.
When you fertilise by hand, often you are applying two-three months worth of plant food to you garden at one time. Your plants can’t use this all at once so the nutrients leach below the root zone or wash off into drains and eventually find their way into waterways and rivers where they can cause toxic algae blooms. SmartFeeder fertiliser injector lightly feeds your plants only the nutrients they need, reducing fertiliser pollution from your garden by up to 90%.
No. SmartFeeder turns on and off automatically with your reticulation system. Simply switch on your SmartFeeder and relax.
Yes. SmartFeeder is suitable for all your garden plants and lawn.
Yes. SmartFeeder connects easily to most reticulation systems. The unit fits 25mm PVC pipe or smaller which is commonly used in domestic irrigation systems.
Yes. Generally 40mm – 50mm pipe is used on high flow bores. Install SmartFeeder on a ‘U’ junction off your main line with a ball valve installed between the ‘U’ junction on your main line.
Use the ball valve to divert half the water through the main line and half through SmartFeeder. Use LiquidLife Smart Refill 3X Concentrate, which is three times the concentration, and when the water combines back in your main line it will contain the ideal dilution of nutrients for your plants.
If you are applying more than 10mm of water to your garden or watering more than twice weekly, normal strength LiquidLife Smart Balance Plant Food will probably provide enough nutrients to your plants.
If you are unsure of how much water you are applying to your garden through each station, time how many seconds elapse between each ‘click’ and then compare this to the SmartFeeder Injection Timing Guide on page 14 of your Owner’s Manual. It’s a handy way to see how much water you are applying to your garden
Yes. SmartFeeder works with both bore or mains connected reticulation systems. See ‘Can you install SmartFeeder on 40mm – 50mm pipes’ (above) for advice on installing SmartFeeder on large bore systems.
No. LiquidLife is specially formulated for fertigation systems.
LiquidLife products are highly concentrated to match the low 8000:1 dilution rate of SmartFeeder. Typical hose-on products have dilution rates of around 30:1 so are less concentrated, and when applied through the SmartFeeder fertiliser injector will have little or no effect on your garden.
With traditional hose-on fertilisers, granulated fertilisers, seaweed tonics and soil wetting agents, you need to water the product on and then often water thoroughly afterwards to stop fertiliser burn and make the nutrients available to plants to use. This is a huge waste of our precious water resource. With SmartFeeder no hand-watering is required at all. In fact, with SmartFeeder you can save ALL of the water you would have normally used to maintain your garden with these products – a saving of up to 25,000 litres per year! SmartFeeder also encourages stronger root development so plants become more drought tolerant requiring less water.
No. Simply attach the ‘quick connect’ hose to the top of the LiquidLife bottle. SmartFeeder will siphon the fertiliser direct from the bottle. There’s no pouring, mixing or measuring required.
No. We do however recommend over winter that you flush the unit with fresh water if not being used for an extended period.
Yes. For natives we recommend LiquidLife Smart Balance Plant Food which is a 7.6(N):0.6(P):1.5(K) blend and provides a good balance of the nutrients plants need. The level of phosphorous is relatively low and will not be a problem for most natives. While some natives do not respond well to high phosphorous (P) contained in many all-purpose NPK fertilisers, the great majority of native plants are not sensitive to high P levels and will respond well to added phosphorus. You generally water natives less, which means they also receive less fertiliser, and water high nutrient plants more which means they receive higher levels of nutrient when using the SmartFeeder system.
